When measuring the particle size of sprays using laser diffraction, it is important to make sure that the spray travels through the measurement zone at a constant velocity. This ensures that particles are not recirculated through the measurement zone several times, for example due to turbulence with the spray plume. It also helps to eliminate any problems associated with velocity biasing.
For laboratory applications where low-volume sprays are characterised, Malvern Instruments can provide a HEPA-rated extraction system. The operation of this system can be triggered from within a Spraytec SOP. For advice regarding extraction for large, high-density spray plumes, please contact your local Malvern representative.
