Blend Content Uniformity

The tablet images shown below are identical in their overall chemical composition. HPLC analysis would confirm this. Their NIR chemical images, however, illustrate clearly that the API (shown in yellow and red) is poorly blended in one tablet and more uniformly blended in the other.

The wealth of information provided by NIR Chemical Imaging permits quantitative evaluations of Blend Content Uniformity. Images can be analyzed statistically using a histogram representation, to provide quantitative, objective, and reproducible results. Indeed, these histograms permit the measurement and visualization of the API concentration distribution within individual tablets or between multiple tablets.
