Dies

Additional capillary dies may be required to generate different shear rate ranges by using different bores or to measure different viscosity ranges by adjusting the die length.

Additionally, certain filled materials might require large bore dies where large particles are present. Rosand capillary dies are manufactured from a special grade of tungsten carbide for wear resistance.

In manufacture, they are spark eroded to extremely high accuracies to ensure reliable measurements. Standard diameters are from 0.5 mm to 3 mm (usually in 0.5mm steps). Standard lengths are from "orifice" (0.25mm, nominally 'zero' length) to 32mm Standard entry angles are 90º, 110º, 120º and 180º.
